I recommend not putting on rug, but rather a rubber mat. The incline of the seat is good feels like natural rowing. So it has the meter but I often just row and this is smooth, and the seat is larger than some and very comfortable. I dont get real hooked into distances and stats just want to row, and speeding up increases the resistance. I thought the magnetic ones did not have smooth rewinding of the strap or chain.

I would not recommend this rower for somebody, who is planning on competing. However, most people have the resistance set too high on their machines anyway, and the whole idea of an air baffle is that the resistance increases with your rowing intensity.
